Watthour Meter Certification Program
ADDED: 2/12/2003 2:27:00 PM
MET Baltimore has launched a certification program for watthour meters to meet regulatory requirements in the U.S., Canada, and other countries. The program covers the certification of accuracy and performance inaccordance with ANSI and Canadian standards; Telecom and EMC requirements for the U.S., Canada, Europe and elsewhere; and NRTL U.S., Canadian, and CE certification for electrical safety.
Since deregulation, many privately owned companies have chosen to purchase and install their own meters, rather than use meters supplied by the local public utility. When watthour meters are privately owned, safety certification is required by electrical inspection authorities in the jurisdictions where the meters are installed. Additionally, electronic meters – including those read remotely – must be certified to comply with limitations on electro-magnetic compatibility, and must be certified to telecom standards when connected to a telephone network.
MET Labs is accredited to test and certify for all regulatory requirements for watthour meters. MET”s new program offers complete testing and certification to each applicable standard, including ANSI C12, CSA 22.2-1010, and UL 3111. Compliant meters will earn a MET certification mark that will be affixed to each meter. Most importantly, he mark will be recognized by electrical inspection authorities and indicating that the watthour meter meets all requirements.
